Question:
We have a large high fenced deer operation and have been using a really high dollar deer feed to supplement with. We have excellent genetics in our deer but they do not seem to be growing like we think they should in body mass and horn. Can you recommend a good deer pellet for us to use?
Answer:
In my opinion most deer feeds are way over priced for what they are. To put it bluntly there is a lot of sensationalism in the deer feed business. It is big money and big profits for a lot of companies selling these feeds. High dollar advertising and pretty bags cost a lot of money. This does not mean though that the feed is all that great. A good deer feed should not cost a fortune. At Gorman Milling we put the same margin on our deer feeds as any other feed. I have seen some products from competitors that cost as much as $100 to $200 dollars more per ton than ours. Simply put that is a shame! Most of our deer rations are custom formulas. Many producers come in and sit down with me to discuss their needs and goals, how they feed, at what level they feed, their browse conditions, etc.... From there we design a custom deer pellet to specifically fit their operation. Also, when we make a custom formula it is a locked in formula. This means there is no least cost formulating to it. It is your custom formula and no one will be messing with the ingredients or changing them up from time to time. Come in and visit with me about a custom formula for your operation and let me show you what a good deer pellet supplement can be. Some deer producers have a personal wildlife consultant. If they will contact me we can mix according to their specification if need be. To contact our nutritionist please email him at caryzipp@earthlink.net.
