Bulk Commodities:
Buying ingredients in train
car loads helps keeps our costs and your price down.
We have an extensive line of commodities for sale as
singular ingredients or for use in our rations we make.
In today's market with rapidly fluctuating prices of
ingredients its best to keep a vast supply around.
Diversity is key to feeding these days. Having
more ingredients around to work with allows us to offer
more options to people feeding livestock. For more
information about a particular ingredient please feel
free to give us a call so we can answer any questions
you may have.

Gorman Milling Company's
steam flaking grain increases the starch
availability of the grain by gelatinizing the starches.
This improves the availability of the starches to
ruminants such as cattle, sheep or goats. By improving
the starch availability an animal is able to be more
efficient in feed conversions. In short, less pounds of
grain for liveweight gain. Steam Flaking grain increases
the digestibility of the grain in the diet.
The steps ;
1. Its the start that counts
- poor quality grain never makes high quality feed. We
start with high quality #2 yellow corn shipped to us by
rail from the mid-west cornbelt.
2. We clean it - We
clean the grain to take out fines and foreign material.
Even #2 corn can contain up to 3% (60 lbs. per ton)
broken kernels and foreign material.
3. We steam condition it
- We cool the grain under pressure for 45 minutes at
approximately 225 degree's. This process gelatinizes the
starch in grain making it more digestible.
4. We flake it thin
- The steam flaked grain is run through the flaking mill
changing the density of the grain. This increases the
water holding capacity of the grain in the rumen.
Thinner flakes require more steam to process, more
electricity, greater wear on rolls, but are more
valuable in your feeding program.
5. We cool it and remove excess
moisture - Horizontal cooler cools and dries
the grain back to approximately 12% moisture. All
mosture that is added in the steaming process must be
removed or grain will spoil. Do not buy water in your
flaked grain. Some flaked grain is knon to contain as
much as 6% more moisture. 6% is 120 LBS of water! Make
sure it is dry!.
6. We condition the flake grain
with a mold inhibitor.
Steam Flaking Grain is superior to Steam Rolling,
cracking or grinding corn! |
